What do you hope to learn from this class, and how might this new knowledge apply to your (prospective) major and/or professional life?

  1. I hope to increase my knowledge of others as well as myself. It's interesting to me how much thought people sometimes put into thier individuality, lives, groups and so on. Life can be a complicated mess and sometimes it boils down to the simplist thing! BTW, that simplistic thing isn't always encumbered by something as sillly as,"right or wrong..."

  2. I would like to become more aware of the psychological side of AAS. I want to know how the Black mainstream feels in our country. I have read books by Frantz Fanon (Wretched of the Earth, Black Skin White Masks) and he takes the psychoanalysis approach of the Black man in France and decolonized countries. His main purpose is to explain the duality that Black people feel when dealing with other Black people and when dealing with their former colonizers...

Deep down, I am really sorry that the perpetuated atrocity of African slavery had to happen at all. But the one thing we can do as human beings besides trying to ignore its existence is to internalize what we have learned and spread it not as opinion but as law. I know it seems like wishful thinking and we have a long way to go, but coming from someone who wants to be an elementary teacher-- one persons voice can make a life long impact on those who are around him/her and respect their voice.

  7. I hope to gain more knowledge about African American history that I never knew before attending this course. I also hope to gain more knowledge about how historical African American figures overcame the stigmas that faced them every day due to the color of their skin. By gaining this knowledge it will help me educate other African Americans on history. The knowledge that I gain will also help me become a better future law enforcement officer by learning how the history of African Americans contributes to their current living situations and socio economic standings.
